Welcome to the Greater Moncton Equestrian Club!

Our goal is to help promote Education, Sportsmanship and Fellowship among the equine world, in all disciplines. One of the objectives of this horse club is to help support all equine activities. The Club runs a very popular show circuit, has monthly meetings on the third Thursday of each month, hosts riding and event clinics and publishes a newsletter about 4 times a year. At the end of the show season, the Club hosts a year end holiday/awards dinner and dance; this continues to be very popular and bring the entire club together to celebrate our year.

What does being a member of the GMEC mean to you? Here is what some of our members have to say:

To be a GMEC member is to be part of a family, not a biological family, but a family of horse people who all have the same interest. There may be many different disciplines, many different breeds and many different qualities of horses, but that bond of the love of horses makes us all similar. The opportunity to get together and talk about our horses, and plan events around horses such as clinics, shows, trail rides, etc, knowing that it will provide you with an opportunity to learn, and meet new friends is the strength behind GMEC. Whether you are a non-horse owner, or a horse owner, the ability to get together and talk about horse will always put a smile on your face and make your day a little bit better. - Brian Kent

Being a member helps to keep us informed about what's going on in the horse world. It also allows you the opportunity to be with people who share your interest which is a love for horses. - Rick & Penny MacLeod

Being a GMEC member means a chance to get together monthly for some social time, laughs and enjoyment with my horsy friends and acquaintances (not just for business, although that part is necessary and even enjoyable). I think that horse people thrive on spending time with their horses but also doing things with other horse people (telling stories about their latest horse conquests or absurdities). The broad spectrum of events sponsored and planned by the GMEC - horse shows, drill competitions, clinics, trail rides - allow me to enjoy time on my horse with other like minded enthusiasts. Take away all the people and the enjoyment of your horse, though still there, will lose some of its shine. - Linda Clark

It's the opportunity to meet and work with horse owners from different disciplines and different stables who I would not ordinarily encounter. It has given me the opportunity to have input into and the benefit from educational seminars and practical clinics. Not having been involved with horses as a youngster I have gained much experience through the club regarding equine events: setting them up, preparing for them, and participating. Most importantly I have had the opportunity over the years to make some very good long term friends and acquaintances through this club. - Diane Thompson

To be a GMEC member to me is much more than being a number. It might sound cliché, but it truly does feel like you're part of a big family with one common them; the love of horses. Horse people are a very peculiar breed and only another fellow horse person would truly understand the beauty of a foal's first wobbly steps, or the potential danger of a horse with a belly ache. Where regular friends and family might not understand why you need to rush to the barn again to throw on that extra blanket on a cold night, a fellow horse person will. There is an acceptance here for your passion found nowhere else. And just like one big family, we all support each other in whatever fields we participate in, from dressage to cattle penning. We're there for one another through the good times and the bad; from cheering someone on at a show, to offering sympathy when a faithful friend is put down. It's a nice feeling when another member inquires about me and my horse. Not only do they remember who we are, but they're genuinely interested in my answer. The GMEC is more than just one horse person talking to another, it's many people coming together, getting to know one another and broadening their horizons through learning from each other. We work together from meetings, to clinics, to shows, to allow each and everyone of us the opportunity to shine in our chosen fields. This is what makes the GMEC that little something extra. Unlike larger clubs spread nationwide where you can sometimes get lost in the shuffle, the GMEC is that "Mom & Pop" store where everyone truly knows your name! - Chantalle Twohig
