The Greater Moncton Equestrian Club has been the driving force behind seeing Drill Teams become a new interest in the horse communities of New Brunswick. The Club has been organizing and sponsoring the GMEC Drill Team Competition for the last 5 years. These 5 years have seen the sport grow from its beginnings of one team in the competition to as many as 5 teams. Last year the addition of quadrilles ( a set routine for teams of 4) was added to help interest new teams.
Drill team work is a great way to practice horsemanship and riding skills. Riders and horses from all levels can participate. Find some music, design some moves, add some teamwork, costumes and a few practice hours and you will have a drill performance. Many of the teams who competed in the competition went on to be opening acts for the RCMP Musical Ride. Also these teams have beem performing their drills at county fairs as paid performances to wow the audiences.
Who can do drill?? Anyone with a ridable horse who has the desire to work as a team with other like minded riders. It is a great way to promote a breed, a stable, 4-H or Pony Clubs. Are you up for some fun? Get together and start a drill team!!!!
